Outdoors and Camping Survivalist Essentials
If you are ever in need to Get Out Of Dodge (GOOD) chances are you will need to be prepared to spend some time outdoors. When SHTF and you feel the need to seek a rural area where it’s just you and natural elements you’ll need some good outdoors/camping gear to get you through the times. Here are some ideas of what you’ll need to prepare for your trip into the wild. Remember that the items that you bring will depend on where you are going and your unique surrounds. Prepping for the Arizona desert would be different than preparing for the Rocky Mountains.
The Bare Essentials
Remember that as a human you are going to have to fulfill the basic needs of survival for you and whoever has embarked on your GOOD trip. This includes the basics of food, water and shelter. Cover these at the most basic levels to prepare your camping checklist and then build for comforts and personal items.
Camping Gear
If you are camping then you will need a good tent that accommodates all the people who are with you. A “good tent” is up for interpretation but consider purchasing a tent that is waterproof and easy to assemble. The next thing that will complement your tent is a good sleeping bag. Here we go with that word again. A “good” sleeping bag should be able to sustain the temperatures that your surroundings are known for. Next on the list is food and water. If possible, camp out next to a fresh water location such as a river or stream so that you have access to water. If you think this may be a problem be prepared with a large container that has enough water you can survive on for at least one week. Food can be handled in the manner of canned goods or non-perishable items. Obviously your refrigerator will not be of any use to you in the event you need to bug out.
Camping Tools
Never forget the important of good tools and how handy they become in survival situations. A Leatherman is a good multipurpose tool that you can use in numerous applications. Also consider bringing a small shovel, hammer, saw, axe, sharp knife, fire wood, waterproof matches, and flashlights and batteries for ultimate preparation. Your Leatherman will contain many tools you need such as a knife, a screwdriver, scissors, and a small saw.
Cooking and Eating Supplies
Don’t forget the supplies you will need to cook and consume your foods and drinks. A camping stove and camping grill as well as pots will take care of most of the cooking needs. If you bring frozen or refrigerated foods a cooler full of ice should last a few days. Also consider bringing a bottle and can opener, utensils, garbage bags, bowls, plates, sponges and storage bags and containers.
